New Book Spotlight
The Ghostlands of Natalie Glasgow
A mini-interview with Hailey Piper
Tell us about your new book?
The Ghostlands of Natalie Glasgow takes my formerly out-of-print 2018 debut novella, The Possession of Natalie Glasgow, and brings it back along with six all-new interconnected stories. It’s a different kind of short story collection for me in that each story progresses from the last, showing paranormal expert Margaret Willow in her encounters with the Glasgow family and her own past while facing possession, hauntings, and the unexplained.
What aspect of the book was the most fun to write?
The most fun for me was writing Natalie’s aunt, Alicia Meadows, and Margaret’s partner, Trish Patel, two characters who are mentioned in the original novella but are never seen on-page. Getting to learn their unique personalities and outlooks was wonderful, especially seeing how each handled strange phenomena of their own lives.
If there is one emotion or theme that you would hope that the reader connects with, what would that be?
I definitely couldn’t pin down one emotion, it’s full of them, but one theme I think it’s how the past doesn’t let go completely. It eases its grip, and you can pull away some, but look over your shoulder and some part of it will still linger.
